Dear Parents,
Re: Year 11 English /
History trip to Edinburgh, Scotland: 30 September – 5 October 2014
We are delighted that your child will be a
participant in the forthcoming educational trip to Edinburgh. We are now also
in a position to confirm the travel, accommodation and payment arrangements for
the trip.
Travel
We will be flying with Jet2 directly between Budapest and Edinburgh. Students can attend
school as normal on the day of departure.
Flight 788 departs Budapest Terminal 2A at
13.30 on Tuesday 30th September 2014
Flight

Flight

Flight 787 arrives in Budapest Terminal 2A at
19.50 on Sunday 30th October 2014
Accommodation
and Meals
Throughout our stay we will be staying in the medieval
heart of Edinburgh in the Cowgate district, under Edinburgh Castle and a few steps
from the Royal Mile. Students and teachers will stay at the Cowgate Tourist
Hostel for 5 nights in a separate apartment we have reserved. We will have our
own living/dining area as well as a Common Room in the hostel. Contact details
of the accommodation will be provided in the final letter before the trip.
Students will order and prepare their own
breakfasts each day at the hostel. Students should have money for other meals
(approximately 20 GBP/HUF 7000 per day).
Payment
The projected total cost of the residential is
HUF 215,000 per child. Having paid a deposit of HUF 130,000 for your child, you
have HUF 85,000 outstanding. We kindly ask you to pay the remaining cost of the
trip before the summer vacation as final payments or flights and accommodation
are due in July. Payments are to be made
to the Finance Office on the following date:
Monday 23rd June à Final Payment à HUF 85,000
Passports/Visas
When you make the
Final Payment, please also provide us with a copy of your child’s passport. Your
child will obviously need to travel with these documents, and we will look
after them at all times, but we would like to have a photocopy in the event of
any loss or damage to the original. If needs be, we can make a copy at school for
you.
Please be
aware that the United Kingdom is in the EU but not in the Schengen Zone and
therefore your child may need a visa to enter the United Kingdom. BISB can
provide you with a letter to assist the visa application process but we must
stress that obtaining a valid visa is the parents’ responsibility. Please let us know if you require a letter
from BISB to assist the visa application process.
Clothing
The saying “there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad
clothes” must have been written about Scotland. Although we are unlikely to
experience snow, almost anything else is possible! We strongly advise that
students bring appropriate clothing for cold and wet weather. As a minimum they
will need a waterproof jacket, warm jumpers and trousers and shoes suitable for
walking. The location of the hostel will allow us to walk to most of the events
on the itinerary so students must have sensible footwear.
Meeting
We propose to
hold a meeting for all parents and students on Wednesday 17th
September at 15.45. The meeting will be arranged to give you the latest
information on all aspects of the residential and will also give you the
opportunity to ask any questions you may have. A detailed
update of the itinerary for the residential will be given out at the meeting.
Nevertheless, the general outline of the trip remains as published on the
original trip letter. Further details of the meeting will be confirmed at the
start of the new term.
We do hope
that this letter provides you with ample information on what promises to be a
fantastic experience for all students involved. Should you, however, have any
queries relating to any aspect of the trip in the meantime, please do not
hesitate to contact us at school.
Yours sincerely,
Douglas Allan
and Joanna Leach
